Twitter

So a month or so ago, a co-worker got me into Twitter. I had heard about it before, but resisted yet another thing that I was going to start out with and then completely fail to update or look at again after a few weeks.

Basically, Twitter is a micro-blog. The idea is that it is a service in which you can provide short -- under 140 character -- updates from anywhere, and all of the people that subscribe to you will receive those messages as soon as you post. Really, you're just supposed to answer the question "What are you doing right now?"

I figured that I enjoy updating things like my Google Talk display message, or my Facebook Status message, and it is basically the same thing. In fact, there's even a Facebook App that will synchronize your status message with your latest twitter. You can even update your twitter and receive friend's messages through Google Talk by adding a Twitter account to your friends list. Updating becomes as simple as sending an IM.

Additionally, you can reply to other people's twitter posts (or tweets) using their username with the @ symbol, and they'll get your reply even if they aren't subscribed to your feed. All in all a neat little app. If you enjoy putting short little quips up in random places at random times, I suggest you give it a try -- and subscribe to me of course ;)
